GPT-Image-2 vs GPT-Image-2.5
These are the same family one version apart, and OpenAI has not deprecated the older one — GPT-Image-2 is still its recommended replacement for every GPT Image and DALL·E model before it. So this is not an upgrade you are forced into; it is a question of what 2.5 adds and whether you need it.
Both are in the Labnana model menu and both take the same prompt, so trying the newer one costs a dropdown change.
Side by side
Every figure below is read from the two model pages, so it moves when the models do.
Which one to pick
GPT-Image-2.5 Flare
OpenAI’s own guidance for new integrations is to use one of the 2.5 models, and Flare is the one it positions for everyday work — described as the small model optimised for speed, with image quality comparable to GPT-Image-2. Starting on the newer one costs nothing and inherits the improvements.
GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst
Precise editing and subject preservation are the documented improvements in 2.5, and Sunburst is the tier OpenAI points at for workflows where editing precision matters most. This is the one case where the version difference is the whole point.
GPT-Image-2
It is not deprecated and it has not changed. A prompt library tuned against GPT-Image-2 will keep producing what it produced, and re-tuning it to chase a newer model is work with no guaranteed payoff. Move the ones that need better editing and leave the rest.

Run the same prompt on both
They sit next to each other in the same model menu, so comparing them is a dropdown change rather than a second account.
